Tinea versicolor is a superficial yeast-related skin condition that commonly causes lighter, darker, or pinkish patches with fine scale. It often appears on the chest, back, shoulders, neck, or upper arms and may itch mildly in warm conditions. Colour can remain uneven after the scale has cleared, so appearance may take time to normalise. Other rashes can also cause scaly, white, or dark patches.
