Short answer

Itchy feet can come from Athlete's Foot, contact irritation, eczema or another skin problem, and the location and appearance help separate these causes.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Reading the pattern

Peeling or cracking between the toes commonly points clinicians toward Athlete's Foot, while itchy blisters on the sides or soles can occur with Dyshidrotic Eczema. A new shoe, dye, detergent or foot product may trigger Contact Dermatitis, often where the material touches. Redness, scaling, moisture and the timing of symptoms provide useful clues, but overlapping patterns are common.

Tell the clinician whether one or both feet are affected, whether the itch is worse after sweating, and whether anyone close to you has a similar rash.

Comfort and prevention

Wash gently, dry carefully between the toes and change damp socks. Choose breathable footwear and avoid sharing towels or shoes. Pause newly introduced products and avoid scratching, which can break the skin and invite infection. If the pattern suggests fungus, a pharmacist or clinician can advise whether Topical Antifungal Treatment is suitable; use it as directed and do not apply steroid cream alone to a suspected fungal rash without advice.

When to seek care

Arrange medical advice if itching persists, spreads, keeps returning or causes cracks that do not heal. Seek prompt care for increasing warmth, swelling, pus, fever, severe pain or red streaking, especially if you have diabetes, poor circulation or reduced sensation. Breathing difficulty or facial swelling after a product needs emergency help.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether the pattern needs a skin scraping, which products to stop, how long to continue treatment, and how to reduce moisture and reinfection in footwear.

Questions people ask

Can itchy feet be caused by shoes?

Yes. Materials, dyes, adhesives or trapped sweat can irritate skin, especially where a shoe contacts the foot.

Should I scratch itchy feet?

Try not to. Scratching can create breaks in the skin and make secondary infection more likely.
