Hair Carboxytherapy: What to Know

Short answer

Hair carboxytherapy is a scalp treatment that delivers medical carbon dioxide beneath the skin and should follow a diagnosis of the hair concern.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Delivery
Carbon dioxide is injected beneath selected scalp areas.
First priority
Clarify the diagnosis before choosing an aesthetic treatment.

How the treatment is described

A trained medical professional injects carbon dioxide into selected scalp areas using a fine needle. The procedure is intended to alter local blood flow and tissue signalling, but the result depends on the cause and pattern of hair loss. It should not be treated as a substitute for identifying inflammation, infection, scarring, or a medical trigger.

Temporary stinging, pressure, redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness can occur at injection sites. Suitability depends on your health, medicines, scalp condition, and the diagnosis being treated. Ask which product, equipment, practitioner credentials, and aftercare plan will be used.

Before and after a session

Bring a list of medicines, allergies, bleeding problems, scalp conditions, and previous procedures to the consultation. Ask what improvement is realistic, how progress will be measured, and whether another treatment is more appropriate. Follow the clinic’s instructions about washing, exercise, heat, and styling after treatment; do not inject or apply unapproved products to the scalp yourself.

When to seek medical help

Contact the treating clinic for worsening pain, increasing swelling, persistent bleeding, drainage, fever, or spreading redness after injections. Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, fainting, or other signs of a severe reaction. If hair loss is sudden, patchy, scarring, or accompanied by scale and pain, obtain a diagnostic dermatology assessment before pursuing an aesthetic procedure.

Questions for your doctor

What is causing my hair loss, and how does this treatment address that cause? Who will perform the injections? What side effects and aftercare should I expect, and how will we judge whether to continue?
