What should you know about guttate psoriasis before and after?

Guttate psoriasis commonly appears as many small, scaly, inflamed spots that can develop over a relatively short period. Before treatment, note where the rash began, whether it itches, and whether a recent illness or skin injury preceded it. After inflammation improves, scaling and redness may settle before the skin colour looks even again. Temporary darker or lighter marks can remain after active psoriasis has calmed, so colour alone does not prove that treatment has failed. A clinician may also check nails and joints for related symptoms.

Take clear photographs in similar lighting and bring a list of recent illnesses, medicines, and skin products. Apply prescribed Topical Corticosteroids exactly as directed and use a plain moisturiser to reduce scale and dryness. Narrowband UVB Phototherapy may be offered when the extent or persistence of the eruption makes light treatment appropriate; attend sessions as scheduled and report excessive redness or blistering. Avoid picking scales and protect exposed skin from strong sun.

Arrange review if new lesions continue, treatment causes worsening irritation, or the rash returns after improving. Seek prompt care for painful swollen joints, eye redness or pain, widespread pustules, fever, or skin that becomes very tender and sheds extensively. These changes need assessment because they may signal a different or more extensive psoriasis pattern. Do not increase steroid use on your own when progress is slow.
