What should you know about green tea and tamoxifen?

Tamoxifen must be converted and handled by the body before it can provide its intended effect. Foods, supplements, and other medicines may influence these processes, and the concern is harder to judge when a product contains a concentrated extract or several ingredients. Matcha, capsules, powders, and slimming preparations should therefore be named separately when you speak with your clinician. A normal drink is not automatically equivalent to a supplement.

Give your breast cancer team a complete list of teas, vitamins, herbal products, and prescribed medicines. Keep the tamoxifen dose and schedule unchanged unless the prescriber gives different instructions. If you have already taken an extract, record its name, strength, amount, and timing and report that information. Do not stop hormone treatment because of an internet warning; obtain an individual interaction review instead.

Seek prompt medical advice for unexpected vaginal bleeding, new leg swelling or pain, chest pain, sudden breathlessness, severe headache, weakness, or vision changes while taking tamoxifen. These symptoms need assessment regardless of whether you use green tea. Follow your local emergency instructions if symptoms are sudden or severe.
