What Is a Granuloma Rash?

Granuloma refers to a particular organisation of immune cells in tissue, but people often use the word loosely for a ring-shaped or clustered rash. The pattern may be smooth or scaly, skin-coloured or red-brown, itchy or symptom-free. A rash can occur with irritation, allergy, infection, inflammation, or a medicine reaction. Photograph it in consistent light and list new medicines, skin products, travel, heat, sweating, contacts, and possible bites. Do not apply several medicated creams at once before assessment, because this can alter the appearance. A clinician may examine the border and surface, check other skin areas, and arrange testing or a scraping when infection is possible.
