What is good for sunburn?

Short answer
Good sunburn care cools the skin, replaces lost moisture, reduces further sun exposure, and monitors for blisters or signs of a severe reaction.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Immediate step
- Leave direct sun and cool the skin gently
- Avoid
- Popping blisters, peeling skin, and direct ice
Understanding sunburn
Sunburn is inflammation caused by ultraviolet exposure. Skin Redness, warmth, tenderness, and later Skin Peeling can occur; more intense burns may form Skin Blisters. Peeling does not mean the skin is ready for more sun. Repeated exposure can contribute to Sun-Damaged Skin, including uneven tone and texture changes.
Comfort and protection
Move out of the sun, take a cool shower or apply a cool damp cloth, and pat the skin dry. Apply a plain moisturiser or Emollient Therapy while the skin is slightly damp. Drink fluids, wear loose clothing, and do not pop blisters or pull peeling skin. Avoid ice directly on the skin and avoid further tanning until healed. A pharmacist can advise on suitable pain relief.
When to seek care
Seek medical advice for extensive blistering, severe pain, fever, chills, vomiting, dizziness, confusion, dehydration, eye symptoms, or signs of infection such as increasing redness, warmth, swelling, or pus. Get urgent help after a burn with fainting, breathing difficulty, or confusion. Children, older adults, and people with significant medical conditions may need earlier assessment.
Questions for your doctor
Ask how deep the burn appears, how to dress any blisters, which moisturiser or pain medicine is appropriate, and when normal skincare can resume. Do not start Topical Corticosteroids on your own; ask whether any prescription treatment is suitable for your specific skin.

Questions people ask
Should I peel sunburned skin?
No. Let loose skin shed naturally and keep the area moisturised while it heals.
When are blisters concerning?
Large, widespread, very painful, infected-looking, or facial blisters warrant medical advice, especially with fever or dizziness.
