What should you know about glasses tension headache?

An outdated prescription, poorly centred lenses, a tight frame or frequent switching between glasses and no glasses can make the eyes work harder. This may feel like pressure across the forehead, temples or around the eyes, often after reading, driving or screen use. Neck and scalp muscle tension can add to the discomfort.

Headache has many possible causes, so glasses are not automatically responsible. Notice whether pain begins after visual tasks, whether vision is blurred or doubled, and whether the frame leaves marks or feels uneven. These observations help an optometrist or clinician assess the pattern.

Book a vision check if your prescription is old, your vision has changed, or headaches began after new glasses. Ask for the frame to be adjusted and check that lenses sit comfortably. Take regular screen breaks, improve lighting, keep text at a comfortable distance and avoid leaning your head forward for long periods.
