What should you know about glans penile rash?

Redness, soreness, itching, scaling, swelling, spots, or a change in the foreskin can occur with different conditions. Friction, scented soaps, lubricants, condoms, or trapped moisture may irritate sensitive skin. Inflammatory conditions such as Contact Dermatitis, Atopic Dermatitis, or Psoriasis can also affect the area. Fungal or other infections may cause burning, discharge, odour, or discomfort when passing urine. A visual description alone cannot reliably identify the cause.

Wash gently with lukewarm water, then pat dry. Avoid fragranced products, antiseptics, vigorous scrubbing, and sexual contact if it aggravates the rash. Do not apply steroid, antifungal, or antibiotic cream unless a clinician has recommended that product for this episode. Wear loose, breathable underwear and avoid picking or scratching. Seek urgent care for severe swelling, inability to pass urine, rapidly worsening pain, fever, or a foreskin that becomes stuck behind the glans.
