Tinea versicolor is an overgrowth of a yeast that normally lives on skin. It often creates patches on the chest, back, shoulders, or neck that are lighter, darker, or pinker than nearby skin. Fine scaling or mild itch can occur, especially with heat and sweating. It is not a sign of poor cleanliness and is not usually spread through ordinary contact.
