What should you know about fungal rash abdomen?

Fungal infection may cause an itchy, scaly patch that gradually enlarges or forms a more noticeable border. Sweat, tight clothing, friction, and skin folds can encourage irritation and moisture, while a new detergent, adhesive, or medicine can cause a different rash. Ringworm, intertrigo, psoriasis, scabies, and drug rash may need different care. A clinician will consider the surface, distribution, timing, and any similar symptoms in household members.

Gently wash and dry the abdomen, change out of sweaty clothing, and choose loose breathable fabrics. Do not scratch, share towels, or use a steroid-only cream on a suspected fungal rash unless prescribed. If an antifungal is advised, follow the label or clinician's instructions and continue for the recommended course. Marking the edge of a spreading patch can help you describe its change at review, but do not irritate the skin to do so.

Seek prompt care if the rash spreads quickly, becomes hot or painful, blisters, develops pus, or comes with fever or facial swelling. Arrange assessment if it persists, returns, affects skin folds extensively, or does not respond to appropriate treatment. Seek earlier advice if you have diabetes, reduced immunity, or are taking medicines that affect immunity.
