Short answer

Menopause symptoms may include hot flushes, night sweats, sleep or mood changes, vaginal dryness, lower desire, and periods stopping.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How menopause can feel

Menopause marks the end of menstrual periods after the ovaries stop releasing eggs and hormone levels change. Hot flushes and night sweats may bring sudden warmth, sweating, chills, or disrupted sleep. Some people notice irritability, anxiety, low mood, reduced concentration, or fatigue.

Lower oestrogen can contribute to vaginal dryness, burning, discomfort during sex, urinary urgency, or recurrent urinary discomfort. Sexual desire can change for several reasons, including sleep loss, mood, pain, and relationship strain. Pelvic pressure or a bulge is not a typical menopause symptom and can have another cause, such as pelvic organ prolapse.

Ways to seek support

Note when symptoms occur and how they affect sleep, work, exercise, intimacy, and mood. Keep the bedroom cool, wear layers, choose breathable sleepwear, and build a regular movement and rest routine. Vaginal moisturisers or lubricants may help dryness, while a clinician can explain local or whole-body hormone options and non-hormonal treatments.

A review is worthwhile when symptoms affect daily life or when you want advice about bone health, contraception, sexual comfort, or medicines. Bring your symptom list and medical history to the appointment.

Symptoms that should be checked

Seek medical advice for any bleeding after menopause, bleeding after sex, persistent pelvic pain, a new pelvic bulge, or urinary symptoms that continue. Get urgent help for severe pain, fainting, sudden weakness, chest pain, or severe breathlessness.

Questions to discuss

Ask whether your symptoms fit menopause, whether bleeding or pelvic pressure needs examination, which treatment options suit your history, whether vaginal treatment could help, and how to protect sleep, mood, sexual comfort, and longer-term health.
