What should you know about full face compression garment?

The garment may cover the cheeks, jaw, chin, forehead, or neck, depending on the swelling pattern and the treatment plan. Its pressure can support fluid movement and may reduce a heavy or tight feeling. Facial tissues are sensitive, and a garment that is too tight can affect comfort, skin, vision, breathing, or jaw movement. Assessment should include scars, skin healing, sensation, and any recent procedure. Compression is one part of care and does not explain why swelling developed.

Use a measured garment with the wearing schedule provided by your clinician. Check that seams do not press on healing wounds and that the edge does not obstruct your eyes, nose, mouth, or airway. Remove it for skin inspection and follow the cleaning instructions. Avoid sleeping in it unless specifically advised. Report poor fit, slipping, pressure points, headache, or changes in sensation so the garment can be adjusted rather than tightened at home.

Remove the garment and seek prompt advice for increasing facial pain, marked skin colour change, numbness, blistering, or swelling that worsens while wearing it. Get emergency help for trouble breathing, swallowing, speaking, or seeing, or for sudden swelling of the lips or tongue. Fever, spreading redness, or discharge from a wound can signal infection and should be assessed quickly.
