What should you know about full body compression garment?

Full body designs may combine panels for the chest, abdomen, pelvis, arms, or legs, depending on where swelling occurs. The fabric gives consistent pressure and may support movement of fluid through functioning drainage pathways. It does not remove the underlying cause of swelling. A therapist considers skin condition, sensation, circulation, scars, body shape, and daily activities before recommending a garment. A ready-made item may not fit safely when swelling is uneven; a measured or custom garment can be more suitable.

Have the garment measured and fitted by a clinician or trained garment specialist. Follow the prescribed wearing schedule, put it on without folds or rolled edges, and inspect the skin after removing it. Wash and dry it according to its care instructions so its pressure remains consistent. Tell the team about numbness, tingling, colour change, increased pain, or marks that do not settle. Do not alter the garment or add extra layers unless your care team directs you.

Remove the garment and contact your care team if swelling suddenly worsens, the skin becomes pale or blue, or you develop new pain, numbness, blistering, or difficulty moving. Urgent assessment is needed for chest pain, severe breathlessness, sudden one-sided swelling, or a limb that becomes hot and very tender. Fever, spreading redness, or leaking skin also needs prompt clinical advice because infection can require treatment.
