The clinician selects a wavelength and pulse setting according to the ink colour, depth, location, and your skin. Light energy targets pigment while aiming to limit injury to surrounding skin. The area may look white or frosted immediately, then become red, swollen, crusted, or tender as it heals. Tattoo lightening is gradual because pigment fragments are cleared between appointments; some colours and heavily layered tattoos can respond differently. Complete removal cannot be promised, and a faint outline or altered skin colour may remain.

Tell the clinician about tanning, medicines, active skin problems, cold sores, allergies, and previous reactions to tattoo treatment.
