What should you know about forehead heat rash?

Heat rash, also called prickly heat or miliaria, can produce tiny red or skin-coloured bumps, stinging, or itch where sweat collects. The forehead may be affected after hot weather, exercise, fever, or occlusive headwear and skincare. The appearance can overlap with acne, contact dermatitis, folliculitis, or another skin rash, so persistent skin redness or bumps should not be self-diagnosed from appearance alone.

Move to a cooler environment, gently rinse away sweat, pat dry, and use loose breathable headwear. Avoid heavy oils, fragranced products, scrubbing, and picking until the skin settles. A cool damp cloth can ease discomfort. If dryness develops, a simple emollient may help, while a clinician can advise whether a short course of topical corticosteroids is appropriate; facial skin needs particular care with steroid strength and duration.

Arrange medical review if the eruption is spreading, lasts despite cooling, repeatedly returns, or becomes painful. Seek urgent care for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, fever with a rapidly worsening rash, blisters, pus, or involvement of the eyes. These features can indicate infection, allergy, or a condition other than uncomplicated heat rash.
