Forehead fat transfer

A clinician removes a small amount of fat, prepares it, and places it in selected forehead layers through small access points. The aim may be to soften hollows, improve contour, or balance facial proportions. It is different from dermal fillers because it uses your own tissue and involves a donor area.

Swelling, bruising, tightness, and temporary unevenness can make the forehead look fuller at first. Some transferred fat may not remain, so the final contour is judged only after healing has progressed. Existing facial asymmetry and skin quality also influence the result.

Before treatment, disclose medicines, bleeding problems, allergies, previous facial procedures, and any active skin infection. Afterward, follow instructions about dressings, sleeping position, cleansing, exercise, and pressure on the forehead. Do not massage or reshape the area unless the surgeon directs you to do so.

Keep review appointments so the surgeon can assess the donor site and forehead contour. Ask whether a staged plan is more suitable if the hollow is extensive or the desired change is subtle. Dermal fillers may be discussed as a non-surgical alternative.

Call the surgical team for increasing pain, rapidly worsening swelling, spreading redness, pus, fever, or bleeding that does not settle with the advised pressure. Seek urgent help for sudden vision change, severe headache, confusion, weakness, or breathing difficulty after facial fat transfer.

Ask where fat will be taken, how the forehead will be mapped, what swelling pattern to expect, how long activity restrictions last, and how contour changes will be monitored. Ask what symptoms require urgent contact and whether your medicines need adjustment.
