Food allergy sensitivity test

Testing may detect an immune response to a food, while an allergy diagnosis asks whether eating that food produces a consistent clinical reaction. Someone can have a test signal without symptoms, and symptoms can have causes other than Food Allergy. The clinician considers the type of reaction, its timing, the amount eaten, and whether another ingredient or illness could explain it. This prevents a test result from leading to unnecessary avoidance or a false sense of reassurance.

Before testing, write down suspected foods, ingredients, timing, symptoms, and any medicine taken. Discuss whether a skin test, blood test, or another approach is appropriate. Do not stop prescribed medicines or deliberately eat a suspected trigger unless the clinician gives specific instructions. If avoidance is advised, ask how to read labels and maintain balanced meals, particularly when several foods are under discussion.

A test appointment is not a substitute for emergency care. Seek immediate help for breathing difficulty, throat or tongue swelling, widespread symptoms with vomiting, faintness, or rapidly worsening symptoms after food exposure. These features can indicate Anaphylaxis. An itchy throat may be part of a serious reaction when it develops with other symptoms; follow your emergency plan and use prescribed treatment as directed.
