What medicine does
Antihistamines may ease selected mild itching, sneezing, a runny nose, or itchy eyes when a clinician or pharmacist advises them. They do not reliably stop throat swelling, breathing difficulty, collapse, or other severe features. Medicines used for Allergic Rhinitis, Allergic Conjunctivitis, House Dust Mite Allergy, or Pet Allergy are not a substitute for a food-reaction plan.

Check the active ingredient, age guidance, drowsiness warning, and interactions before taking an antihistamine. Follow the label or prescription and never share medicine. Call emergency services for throat or tongue swelling, breathing difficulty, faintness, confusion, or rapidly worsening symptoms after eating. Follow prescribed emergency instructions without delaying for an antihistamine. Persistent vomiting or symptoms involving several body areas also need prompt care.
