Food allergies that cause vertigo

An allergic reaction can lower blood pressure or affect breathing, creating light-headedness or a feeling of faintness. Vertigo is different: it feels as though you or the room is moving. It may occur with nausea, hearing changes, ear pressure, headache, or symptoms after turning your head. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, Meniere's Disease, Middle Ear Infection, and Migraine can all produce balance symptoms. A food trigger is more concerning when dizziness appears alongside hives, swelling of the lips or tongue, wheezing, vomiting, or throat tightness.

Record what you ate, when symptoms began, how long they lasted, and whether movement changed them. Avoid a suspected food until a clinician reviews the history, but do not remove several food groups without nutritional advice. Arrange medical assessment for recurring episodes. A clinician may examine your ears, nerves, blood pressure, and balance, then decide whether allergy evaluation or another investigation is appropriate. Do not drive while the room is spinning.

Call emergency services immediately for breathing difficulty, throat or tongue swelling, widespread hives with dizziness, collapse, confusion, or repeated vomiting after eating. These can signal Anaphylaxis. Sudden severe vertigo with weakness, facial drooping, trouble speaking, a new severe headache, or inability to walk also needs emergency assessment. Seek prompt clinical advice for new, persistent, or worsening vertigo, especially with hearing loss or fainting.
