Fish oil and heart palpitations

Palpitations may feel like pounding, fluttering, skipped beats, or a racing heartbeat. Fish oil may be one detail in the timeline, but palpitations can also occur with dehydration, low blood sugar, anaemia, an overactive thyroid, anxiety, fever, caffeine, or some medicines. Atrial fibrillation is one possible rhythm cause, while many episodes are not caused by a dangerous rhythm. The description, duration, pulse pattern, and associated symptoms help guide assessment.

Record when episodes happen, how long they last, what the heartbeat feels like, and the fish oil product and dose. Note caffeine, exercise, illness, stress, and other medicines. A clinician may check your pulse, blood tests, or heart rhythm.

Call emergency services if palpitations occur with chest pain, severe shortness of breath, fainting, new confusion, or weakness or numbness on one side. Seek prompt care for a first episode that does not settle, repeated episodes with dizziness, or palpitations alongside swelling or breathlessness that could suggest Heart Failure. Do not drive yourself if you feel faint.
