What Treatment Helps Splitting Fingernails?

Splitting may affect the free edge in layers or run lengthwise through the nail. Repeated wetting and drying, detergents, solvents, picking, biting, and forceful filing can weaken the nail structure. Injury, eczema around the hands, psoriasis, thyroid problems, nutritional problems, and nail fungus can also contribute. One split does not identify a single diagnosis.
