When lip filler appears above the lip

A ridge or fullness above the vermilion border may be related to filler extending beyond the intended area, temporary swelling, scar tissue, or the way the upper lip is shaped. Repeated injections, tissue pressure, and product characteristics can influence how an area looks over time. A photo alone cannot confirm migration. The clinician may compare the lip at rest and during movement and feel the tissue to distinguish product from normal structure.

Arrange a review with the injector or another qualified medical professional. Bring the product name, treatment dates, amount used if known, and photographs taken before swelling began. Avoid squeezing, vigorous massage, or adding more filler until the area has been assessed. If the material is hyaluronic acid, the clinician can explain whether observation, targeted treatment, or another option is appropriate. Fat transfer is a different approach and requires separate discussion.

Seek prompt advice for increasing pain, redness, warmth, swelling, or drainage. Get urgent assessment for pale or dusky skin, severe pain, or any change in vision after an injection. These signs can indicate a complication requiring timely care, so do not attempt home correction.
