FIGO mifepristone and misoprostol guidance

Misoprostol also has other medical uses, including cervical preparation and induction of labour, so the correct dose, route, timing, and supervision depend on the reason for treatment.

Before treatment, a clinician may confirm the pregnancy location and stage, discuss medical history and medicines, and explain expected cramping and bleeding. A follow-up plan is needed to check that treatment has worked and to address ongoing symptoms.

Use these medicines only through a qualified service with clear instructions. Do not substitute tablets, change the interval, or repeat a dose without advice. Seek urgent medical help for severe or worsening abdominal pain, fainting, marked weakness, difficulty breathing, fever that persists, foul-smelling discharge, or bleeding that is heavy or does not ease as instructed. One-sided pain or collapse can indicate an ectopic pregnancy and needs emergency assessment. Contact the treating service if expected bleeding does not occur or pregnancy symptoms continue.
