What a painless fibroadenoma may mean

Fibroadenomas are solid lumps made from glandular and connective tissue. They may feel smooth, firm, and mobile beneath the skin, and many cause no discomfort. Lack of pain is not a test: several breast conditions can be painless, and a lump's texture can be difficult to judge accurately at home.

A clinician will consider your age, examination findings, how long the lump has been present, and whether it has changed. Breast Ultrasound may help characterize the area. When imaging or examination leaves uncertainty, Breast Biopsy may be recommended.

Arrange an appointment for any new lump or one that has not been assessed. Before the visit, note its location, whether it moves under the fingers, when you first noticed it, and any change in size or skin or nipple appearance. Avoid forceful squeezing or trying to move it repeatedly.
