What can a fibroadenoma look like?

A fibroadenoma often feels smooth, firm, and well defined, but appearance alone cannot confirm its diagnosis. It may move slightly under the fingers and may not hurt. Breast tissue varies naturally, so a new or changing lump should be assessed rather than identified by touch alone.

The lump can have a rounded or oval shape and a springy or rubbery texture. It may sit close to the skin or deeper in the breast, and it can be easier to notice at certain points in the menstrual cycle.
