Fibroadenoma in the leg: what a lump may mean

Fibroadenoma describes a particular type of solid lump in breast tissue. The leg contains skin, fat, muscle, blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue, so a lump there belongs to a different group of conditions. A soft, firm, mobile, or tender feel cannot identify its cause.

A clinician may examine the skin, muscle, and nearby joints and request imaging suited to the leg. Arrange an appointment if the lump is new, persistent, growing, painful, or affecting movement. Note its exact location, when you first noticed it, whether it changes with activity, and any injury, infection, numbness, or swelling. Photographing the skin can help document visible change.

Do not massage, pierce, or try to drain the lump. After assessment, the clinician may recommend observation, imaging, sampling, or removal. Seek prompt medical attention if the lump grows quickly, feels fixed, becomes red or hot, or causes worsening pain. Get urgent help for sudden leg swelling with chest pain or breathlessness, or for severe pain with a pale, cold, or numb foot.

Ask what tissue the lump involves, which scan is appropriate, whether sampling is needed, what changes matter, and whether activity should be limited while it is being assessed.
