Fibroadenoma near the armpit: symptoms and next steps

The armpit contains lymph nodes, skin, sweat glands, and tissue that may connect with the outer breast. A lump there can therefore have several explanations. When a fibroadenoma is present in breast tissue near the armpit, it may be firm, rounded, and movable, with tenderness that changes alongside hormonal shifts.

Feeling the lump cannot establish its identity. A biopsy may be recommended when the scan or examination remains unclear.

Make a note of when the lump appeared, whether it changes during your cycle, and whether you have breast pain, skin changes, fever, or recent infection. Avoid repeatedly pressing it, which can make the area sore. Arrange an assessment even if the lump is painless or moves under your fingers.

If assessment confirms a fibroadenoma, monitoring may be reasonable when it is stable and comfortable. Removal can be considered when it enlarges, causes persistent discomfort, or remains difficult to distinguish from another lump.
