Some fibroadenomas feel smooth and mobile, while others may seem less mobile because they are deeper, larger, close to the chest wall, or surrounded by firm breast tissue. The way a lump moves under your fingers is not enough to identify its cause. A fixed-feeling lump can have benign explanations, but it should not be labelled at home.

During assessment, a clinician checks the lump and nearby tissue and may request Breast Ultrasound. Imaging can show the lump's structure and relationship to surrounding tissue. Breast Biopsy may be used when the findings do not clearly establish the diagnosis.

Book a clinical assessment for a lump that feels fixed, especially if it is new or has changed. Record when you noticed it, whether it varies with your menstrual cycle, and whether you have pain, discharge, or skin changes. Do not try to force the lump to move or repeatedly manipulate it.
