What should you know about fibroadenoma common location?

A fibroadenoma may develop in the upper, lower, inner, or outer part of either breast. Some are close to the surface and easy to feel; others sit deeper and are noticed during imaging. The breast has naturally varied tissue, so a familiar location or a freely moving feel cannot establish the diagnosis.

A clinician considers the lump's size, edges, consistency, mobility, and relationship to nearby tissue. Breast Ultrasound can help distinguish a solid lump from a fluid-filled area and may show features consistent with fibroadenoma. Further testing is chosen when the findings do not give a clear answer.

Make an appointment for any new breast lump, even if it is painless or sits in a location where you have felt normal breast tissue before. Describe which breast and area is involved, how long it has been present, and whether it changes around your menstrual cycle.

Your clinician may recommend observation with follow-up, imaging, or Breast Biopsy. If a confirmed lump is uncomfortable, growing, or difficult to monitor, Breast Lump Excision may be discussed. Avoid using location as a reason to delay assessment.

Contact a clinician promptly if a lump grows quickly, becomes fixed, causes skin puckering, is accompanied by nipple inversion or spontaneous bloody discharge, or occurs with breast redness and fever. These signs can have different explanations, but an examination is the safest way to decide what happens next.
