Fibroadenoma before pregnancy: what to know

Fibroadenomas are made from glandular and connective breast tissue. They often feel smooth, firm, and mobile beneath the skin, although only an examination and appropriate imaging can identify what a lump represents. Hormonal changes during pregnancy can make breast tissue and an existing fibroadenoma feel different or grow, so documenting its size and appearance beforehand can be useful.

A clinician may recommend a breast ultrasound and, when the findings are unclear or the lump has concerning features, a breast biopsy. A known, stable fibroadenoma does not automatically prevent pregnancy, but your personal history and examination guide the plan.

Arrange a breast assessment if the lump has not been evaluated, and tell the clinician that you are planning pregnancy.
