What should you know about fever temperature of human body?

Short answer
Human body temperature naturally shifts, while fever is a noticeable rise that often reflects the body's response to infection or inflammation.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Body temperature in context
There is no single reading that is normal for every person. Temperature changes with the time of day, activity, environment, age, and the measurement site. A mouth, ear, forehead, or armpit reading may not match another method, so use the device as directed and keep the method consistent. Fever may come with chills, sweating, warm skin, tiredness, aches, headache, or appetite changes. It can occur with respiratory illnesses such as common cold, COVID-19, bronchiolitis, or croup, and with other infections. The reading alone cannot tell which condition is present.
Checking and easing fever
Let the person rest, offer fluids often, and choose light clothing. Avoid forcing food if appetite is low, but watch for dehydration. Take a repeat reading after the person has rested, using a clean, working thermometer and the same site. Medicines can reduce discomfort when suitable; follow the label, use age-appropriate products, and check with a pharmacist about allergies, chronic illness, pregnancy, or interactions. Never give a child aspirin unless a clinician directs it. Avoid ice baths and alcohol on the skin.
Warning signs
Get emergency help for breathing difficulty, a seizure, blue or grey colouring, severe confusion, inability to wake normally, a stiff neck, or a rapidly spreading rash. Seek prompt advice for a young infant with fever, persistent vomiting, very little urine, severe pain, or a person who is unusually weak. Arrange medical review if readings keep rising, fever returns after improvement, or symptoms continue without a clear cause. Trust a marked change in behaviour even when the number seems modest.
Useful questions
Ask which thermometer site is most suitable, whether symptoms suggest a need for testing, and what changes should trigger urgent review. Share the readings, measurement method, medicines given, fluid intake, and any recent travel or exposure to illness.

Questions people ask
Why can two thermometers show different readings?
Devices, measurement sites, technique, and timing can differ, so compare readings taken consistently with one reliable method.
Does a higher reading always mean a more serious illness?
No. Severity also depends on age, behaviour, breathing, hydration, other symptoms, and medical history.
