Short answer

Malaria is transmitted by infected female Anopheles mosquitoes, and illness after possible exposure should be tested without delay.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Which mosquito is involved

Female Anopheles mosquitoes need a blood meal to develop eggs. If one carries malaria parasites, its bite can pass those parasites into the bloodstream. The parasites then develop in the body and may cause fever, chills, sweating, headache, tiredness, or muscle aches. The mosquito's appearance is not a reliable way for a traveller to identify risk, and a bite may leave no memorable mark. Malaria is confirmed through medical assessment and testing rather than by symptoms alone.

Reducing risk and arranging assessment

Use repellent, long sleeves and trousers, screened accommodation, and a bed net where appropriate. Before travel, book a travel health consultation to review destination-specific malaria prophylaxis and your medical history. If fever or chills develop during travel or after returning, seek medical advice promptly, describe your itinerary and dates, and ask whether a blood test is needed. Take prevention medicine exactly as prescribed, but continue to protect yourself from bites.

When symptoms need urgent attention

Get urgent care for fever after travel to a malaria area, particularly if you become confused, unusually drowsy, short of breath, faint, unable to keep fluids down, or develop a seizure. Malaria can worsen quickly, so do not delay assessment while trying to identify the insect.

Questions for your doctor

Was my destination a malaria-risk area? Which test is appropriate now, and might it need repeating? What prophylaxis and bite protection should I use for a future trip?

No. Malaria transmission is associated with infected female Anopheles mosquitoes, not every female mosquito.

Seek prompt medical advice, explain where and when you travelled, and mention any mosquito exposure or prevention medicine.
