What should you know about a fatty lump on the back?

A lipoma is a non-cancerous growth made of fat cells beneath the skin. It often feels soft or rubbery and may move slightly when pressed. A back lipoma can be hard to see or measure without help, and not every lump in the same area is a lipoma. A clinician considers how long it has been present, whether it is changing, how deep it feels, and whether it causes pain or pressure.
