What should you know about fat transfer to neck lines?

Neck lines may reflect skin creasing, thin soft tissue, sun-related change, muscle movement or a combination of factors. During assessment, the clinician examines skin quality, laxity, bands and the depth of each line. Fat is removed from a donor area, prepared, then introduced through small openings. The intention is to restore gentle fullness rather than erase every crease. Fat survival varies between areas, and the neck’s movement can affect how the result settles.

Fat transfer does not correct every cause of neck ageing. If loose skin or prominent muscle bands are the main concern, another approach may be discussed. Lines that change suddenly, or a lump, pain or difficulty swallowing, need medical review rather than cosmetic treatment.

Tell the practitioner about skin conditions, medicines that affect bleeding, allergies, smoking and previous injections or surgery. Clarify the donor site, anaesthesia, expected swelling and how long you should avoid pressure, heavy exercise and sun exposure. Keep the area clean as instructed and attend follow-up visits. Do not massage the neck or apply products unless your treatment team advises it, because pressure can disturb early placement.

Call the clinic for increasing redness, warmth, drainage, fever, worsening pain, marked asymmetry or swelling that continues to increase. Get urgent medical help for trouble breathing or swallowing, rapidly expanding neck swelling, fainting, chest pain or sudden breathlessness.

Ask which part of the lines is suitable for fat, whether skin laxity limits the benefit, how the donor area heals, when you may turn your neck freely, and how unexpected swelling will be assessed.
