What should you know about fat transfer on breast?

It is a surgical procedure, not a routine injectable appointment, and suitability depends on your goals, available donor tissue, breast health, and examination.

A clinician removes fat with liposuction, processes it, and places it into selected breast areas. This can shape a contour or provide a modest volume change, but it does not replace every function of a breast implant or correct every degree of sagging. Some transferred fat may be absorbed, and the final appearance develops as swelling settles.

The breast and donor sites can both be bruised, swollen, numb, tender, or uneven during recovery. Lumps, oil cysts, or areas of firmness can occur and may need examination. Tell the breast team about prior breast disease, imaging, pregnancy plans, and medicines that affect bleeding.

Clarify the planned donor area, anaesthesia, incision sites, support garment, activity restrictions, and follow-up schedule. Arrange help for the first part of recovery and wear only the garments recommended by the surgical team. Keep incisions clean as instructed, walk gently when permitted, and do not judge the result while swelling is changing. Keep future breast-screening clinicians informed about the procedure and any areas that were treated.

Call the surgical team for increasing one-sided swelling, worsening pain, spreading redness, fever, drainage, wound separation, or a new firm area that concerns you. Urgent help is needed for chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, or a suddenly painful swollen leg. Do not wait for a routine review if you feel acutely unwell.
