What should you know about fat transfer lip injections?

The clinician takes fat from a donor area, processes it, and places small amounts into selected parts of the lips. Planning considers lip proportions, movement, facial balance, and the amount of available donor tissue. Swelling can make lips look larger or less even at first; the early result should be interpreted alongside the planned follow-up.

Fat transfer is different from a standard lip filler. It uses your own transferred tissue and involves a donor site as well as the lips. Some of the transferred fat may settle differently over time, so the final contour cannot be judged immediately.

Tell the clinician about medicines, allergies, cold sores, previous lip procedures, smoking, and any healing problems. Ask how eating, drinking, talking, sleeping position, and pressure on the lips should be managed after treatment. Keep the area clean as instructed, avoid unnecessary touching, and attend the planned review. Report concerns with photographs if the clinic requests them, especially when swelling is uneven or changing.

Call the treating clinic for increasing pain, spreading redness, warmth, discharge, fever, or swelling that worsens after initially settling. Get urgent help for breathing difficulty, marked weakness, collapse, or sudden visual symptoms. Tingling, tenderness, bruising, and temporary unevenness may occur, but symptoms that intensify need professional assessment.
