What should you know about fat transfer in boobs?

The clinician reviews breast size, shape, skin quality, medical history and available donor fat. Liposuction collects fat through small openings; processed cells are then placed in planned areas of the breast. This can support contour correction or modest volume restoration, but it does not provide the same approach as an implant and cannot create an identical result for every person.

Breast and donor-site swelling, bruising, soreness and altered sensation are common parts of early healing. The initial appearance can change as swelling settles. Fat that does not establish may reduce fullness or create uneven areas, so your consultation should include realistic expectations and follow-up.

Tell your clinician about breast symptoms, previous breast surgery, medicines, allergies, smoking or vaping, pregnancy plans and relevant family history. Discuss how breast checks and imaging will be coordinated. Follow instructions for medication, support garments, wound care and activity. Arrange transport and help at home, walk gently when advised, and avoid pressure or strenuous activity until reviewed.

Contact the treatment team for worsening pain, spreading redness, warmth, discharge, fever, wound separation, sudden one-sided swelling or a painful swollen leg. Emergency symptoms include chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting or sudden weakness. A new breast lump, persistent hard area, skin change or nipple discharge needs examination and should not be attributed to fat transfer without assessment.

Ask what change is realistic, where donor fat would come from, how scars may look, how future breast imaging will be interpreted, what recovery restrictions apply and how asymmetry would be managed. Confirm the anaesthesia plan, follow-up schedule and emergency contact route.
