What should you know about fat transfer from thighs to breast?

A clinician first assesses your breast shape, skin, goals and available donor fat. The thigh area is numbed or managed with the anaesthesia plan, and fat is collected through small liposuction openings. After processing, selected fat cells are placed through fine openings in layers within the breast. This can improve contour or restore volume, but it is not the same as an implant and the amount that can be transferred depends on your anatomy.

Swelling, bruising, tenderness and temporary changes in sensation can affect both the thighs and breasts. The breasts may look fuller at first while healing settles. Some transferred fat may not remain, so your clinician should explain whether staged treatment could be appropriate.

Before treatment, share your medical history, medicines, allergies, smoking or vaping, previous breast procedures and any breast symptoms. Ask how breast imaging will be planned after fat transfer and which garments or activity limits apply. Arrange help for the early recovery period, wear only the recommended support, walk gently as advised, and avoid pressure or strenuous exercise until cleared. Keep every follow-up appointment so healing and breast or donor-site changes can be checked.

Contact your treatment team promptly for worsening rather than improving pain, spreading redness, increasing warmth, pus, fever, sudden swelling on one side, wound separation, or a leg that becomes unusually swollen or painful. Seek urgent help for chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, or sudden neurological symptoms. New breast lumps or persistent changes after healing also need clinical assessment; do not assume they are caused by the procedure.

Ask which thigh areas are suitable donors, what result is realistic for your breast shape, how the procedure may affect future mammograms, what scars and sensation changes to expect, and how complications would be managed. Clarify the anaesthesia, aftercare, follow-up schedule and whether another session might be discussed.
