What should you know about fat transfer around mouth?

The mouth area includes the lips, corners of the mouth, smile lines, and the lower-face transition around them. A clinician assesses whether the concern is reduced volume, a crease, skin laxity, muscle movement, or a combination. Fat is collected from a donor site, prepared, and carefully placed to create a gradual contour.

The procedure is not the same as a lip filler treatment. Fat can provide broader soft-tissue volume, while an injectable may allow more targeted adjustment. Movement from speaking and eating can affect how the area settles, and asymmetry may be present before or after treatment.

Tell the clinician about dental work, cold sores, medicines that affect bleeding, allergies, smoking, and previous procedures around the lips or nose. Clarify which lines are expected to improve and whether skin-focused treatment would be needed for texture.

Plan for swelling, tenderness, and bruising around the donor and treatment sites. Eat and drink according to the instructions you receive, keep the area clean, and avoid pressure, vigorous exercise, or facial manipulation until cleared. Keep follow-up appointments so healing and symmetry can be reviewed.

Call the clinic promptly for increasing pain, spreading redness, warmth, drainage, fever, or swelling that is worsening rather than easing. Get urgent help for sudden skin colour change, severe facial pain, breathing difficulty, or any new vision problem.
