Cryolipolysis uses an applicator to cool a fold of tissue for local contouring. A fat-dissolving injection places a medicine into a selected area, where it acts on fat cells. Neither term means an injection that freezes fat. The treatment area, depth, product, and technique all affect whether an approach is appropriate.

Cooling can cause cold, pulling, tingling, numbness, redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness. Injections can cause swelling, soreness, bruising, firmness, and other product- or technique-related effects. Some areas need particular caution because nearby nerves, blood vessels, or important structures may be affected.

Have a qualified clinician examine the pocket of fat and confirm what treatment is actually being offered. Bring the product name, device name, and treatment area to the consultation. Discuss allergies, medicines, prior procedures, reduced sensation, circulation problems, cold sensitivity, infection, and surgery near the area.

Ask whether the goal is skin tightening, muscle definition, removal of a small fat pocket, or overall weight change; the options do not address these goals in the same way. Follow preparation and aftercare instructions, and plan review rather than combining treatments without professional guidance.

Call the clinic promptly for escalating pain, extensive swelling, blistering, spreading redness, fever, drainage, severe bruising, or persistent numbness. Seek emergency help for breathing difficulty, collapse, or swelling of the face or throat. A new firm or enlarging area after treatment should be examined rather than repeatedly massaged at home.
