Get urgent assessment after an injury if the shoulder appears out of place, pain is severe, or the arm cannot be used normally. After reduction, seek prompt help for a cold or pale hand, worsening numbness, new weakness, uncontrolled pain, increasing swelling, or a shoulder that seems to slip out again. Chest pain or breathing difficulty requires emergency care.
