What should you know about faja garment after liposuction?

Liposuction removes selected fat deposits through small openings. Swelling, bruising, tenderness and temporary fluid movement can follow. A faja applies even support over the treated area and may help the recovery plan, but it does not remove residual fat or replace follow-up care.

The correct garment is supportive rather than painfully tight. It should not create deep ridges, numbness, cold or discoloured skin, worsening pressure pain, or difficulty breathing. Incisions and drains may require a particular opening or garment design.

Wear the garment for the hours your surgeon specifies and follow instructions about washing, showering, sleep and drain access. Keep the skin and incision areas clean and dry as directed. Check the skin when changing the garment, especially at seams and the edges. Do not increase compression or alter the schedule because swelling feels uncomfortable.

Contact the surgical team for increasing swelling on one side, worsening pain, spreading redness, wound separation, drainage, fever, a new rash or a garment that causes numbness or colour change. Seek urgent care for chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting or sudden calf swelling and pain.

Ask how snug the garment should feel; how long to wear it each day; how to manage incisions, drains and bathing; when another size is needed; and which symptoms mean the garment should be removed and the clinic contacted.
