Facial Asymmetry Fillers: What to Know

Small differences between the two sides of a face are common. Unevenness can relate to bone shape, muscle activity, tooth or jaw position, injury, ageing or facial volume loss. Fillers can soften a hollow, support a contour or balance a difference caused by lost volume; they cannot correct every structural or movement-related cause. Assessment usually includes the face at rest and while smiling or talking.

Choose a qualified medical injector who can explain the product, injection sites and alternatives. Hyaluronic acid filler is one option because it adds volume and some products can be dissolved by a clinician if needed. Depending on the cause, Botox, a collagen biostimulator injection or fat transfer may be considered instead. Discuss previous fillers, allergies, dental work, medicines and a history of cold sores. Conservative staging can make changes easier to assess.

After injection, seek urgent medical help for severe or unusual pain, pale or dusky skin, vision change, weakness, or rapidly worsening swelling. Contact the clinic for increasing redness, warmth, drainage, fever or a firm painful lump. Do not massage an area unless the injector specifically advises it.

Ask what is causing the asymmetry, which areas would be treated, whether movement or jaw position matters, and what correction options exist if the result is uneven. Ask about expected swelling, review timing and symptoms that need urgent attention.
