Face taping for frown lines: what to know

Frown lines, also called glabellar lines, form between the eyebrows when facial muscles repeatedly contract. Sun exposure, skin ageing and reduced elasticity can make the creases more visible even when the face is relaxed. Tape can hold the skin or serve as a reminder to reduce unconscious brow tension, but it cannot relax the muscle in the way a medical treatment does.

Choose skin-safe tape, patch-test it, and remove it gently without stretching the skin. Do not place adhesive over eczema, wounds, active rash or recently treated skin. Daily sunscreen and a simple moisturiser support the skin. A clinician may discuss Botox for movement-related lines or Dermal Fillers in selected cases; these treatments have different risks and are not interchangeable.

Arrange a medical review if a new mark is one-sided, painful, itchy, swollen, bleeding, or changing in colour or shape. Seek urgent help for sudden facial weakness, severe headache, speech trouble, or vision changes rather than treating the appearance with tape.

Ask whether your lines are visible at rest or mainly with movement, whether your skin can tolerate adhesive, and which option fits your goals, expression and medical history.
