What should you know about face tape for frown lines?

Frown lines, also called glabellar lines, sit between the eyebrows and deepen when the muscles used for frowning or concentration contract. With time, a crease may remain when the face is relaxed. Tape changes the surface position of the skin while it is applied; it does not reach the muscle or restore skin structure. Strong adhesive can pull delicate skin and trigger irritation, especially around the brows.

For a trial, choose skin-safe tape, test it on a small area, avoid applying it over a rash or recently treated skin, and remove it slowly without repeated pulling. Stop if you develop itching, burning, swelling or a lasting mark. Sun protection and a bland moisturiser can support the surrounding skin. For longer-lasting reduction in movement-related lines, a qualified clinician may discuss Botox; dermal fillers are a different option and are not suitable for every line or person.

Contact a clinician if redness spreads, blisters form, the skin becomes painful or the reaction continues after tape removal. Have a new, rapidly changing, bleeding or non-healing mark examined instead of covering it. Emergency care is appropriate for swelling that affects breathing or vision.
