What should you know about face tags moles?

A mole is a collection of pigment-producing cells and may be flat or raised, brown, black, pink or close to your natural skin tone. A skin tag is usually a soft, flesh-coloured piece of tissue that hangs from a narrow base, often where skin rubs. A photograph and examination help a clinician tell these apart from other bumps. A facial mark can be harmless while still deserving review if its pattern changes.

Avoid cutting, tying off or burning a facial growth at home. Home removal can cause bleeding, infection, scarring and an incomplete diagnosis. A clinician may recommend observation, surgical excision or a planned mole-removal procedure, depending on the growth and its features. Removed tissue may be sent for laboratory assessment when appropriate. Keep the area protected from sun while it heals and follow wound-care instructions closely.

Book a prompt assessment for a mark that changes in size, shape or colour, develops several shades, bleeds without clear injury, repeatedly crusts, itches persistently or becomes tender. Seek urgent help for bleeding that will not stop with firm pressure. A concerning change is a reason for examination, not a diagnosis by itself.

Ask whether the mark is more consistent with a mole or tag, whether removal is medically needed, whether the whole growth will be removed, if tissue will be examined, and how a facial scar may be managed.
