Face pack for dry skin: what to know

Short answer
For dry skin, choose a fragrance-free hydrating face pack, keep contact brief, and moisturise afterward instead of using harsh or drying ingredients.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What a face pack can do
A face pack is a temporary topical layer. A creamy or gel formula may make the surface feel softer, while clay, charcoal, scrubs, strong acids, and drying powders can remove surface oils and increase tightness. A pack cannot by itself correct a damaged skin barrier. Persistent flaking or itch may reflect Dry Skin, asteatotic eczema, Atopic Dermatitis, or Psoriasis, particularly when symptoms extend beyond the face.
Use one with less irritation potential
Choose a simple, fragrance-free product intended for dry or sensitive skin. Test it on a small area before applying it to the face, avoid the eyelids and cracked skin, and follow the product's contact instructions. Rinse with lukewarm water without scrubbing, pat dry, and apply a bland moisturiser immediately. Do not combine a new pack with exfoliating acids, retinoids, or other irritating products on the same day. Stop if you feel burning, marked itching, or increasing redness.
When a face pack is not the answer
Seek dermatology advice for recurrent cracking, bleeding, intense itch, thick plaques, facial swelling, or a rash that continues after stopping the product. Get urgent help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the lips or tongue, widespread blisters, or rapidly worsening facial pain. A clinician can identify dermatitis or another condition and recommend emollient therapy when appropriate.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether a face pack is suitable for your current symptoms, which ingredients to avoid, and whether you need a leave-on moisturiser instead. Bring the product packaging if a reaction has occurred.

Questions people ask
How often should you use a face pack for dry skin?
There is no universal schedule; follow the product directions and reduce use or stop if your skin becomes tight or irritated.
Are homemade face packs safer?
Not necessarily; kitchen ingredients can irritate or cause allergy, and their acidity or abrasiveness may be unpredictable.
