What should you know about eyelash itching causes?

New mascara, cleanser, lash glue, extensions, or eye drops can trigger contact dermatitis. Dry, cracked, or scaly skin may fit asteatotic eczema or atopic dermatitis. Thickened plaques can occur with psoriasis or lichen planus. A ring-shaped or moist rash may suggest a skin yeast infection, while intense itch affecting household contacts can raise scabies as a possibility. Raised itchy welts that come and go may be hives. These clues guide assessment; they do not identify the cause by themselves.

Stop recently added eye products and avoid rubbing, scratching, and lash extensions until symptoms settle. Rinse away a product that has entered the eye with clean water, and remove contact lenses if they are uncomfortable. Use a cool compress over closed lids. Do not share cosmetics, and do not apply steroid, antifungal, or other medicated creams close to the eye unless a clinician has confirmed the product and method are appropriate.

Seek prompt eye care for pain, blurred vision, light sensitivity, marked swelling, pus-like discharge, or trouble opening the eye. Arrange a dermatology assessment when itching persists, keeps returning, causes skin cracks, or is accompanied by lash loss or a spreading rash. Mention new products, scalp or body symptoms, and whether anyone close to you is itchy.
