What should you know about extremely dry crepey skin?

Short answer
Extremely dry crepey skin can reflect dehydration, reduced elasticity, or sun damage, and care should combine moisturising, protection, and an appropriate assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why skin can look crepey
Crepey skin has fine crinkling and may feel thin, rough, or tight. Dryness makes surface lines more visible, while ageing and repeated ultraviolet exposure can reduce the skin's supportive structures and elasticity. It often appears on the arms, neck, chest, or around the eyes, although other areas can be affected.
A sudden, localised change, marked itch, scaling, rash, easy bruising, or a sore that does not heal should not be dismissed as ordinary dryness. A clinician can distinguish surface dehydration from sun-damaged skin or another skin condition.
Support the skin
Use a gentle cleanser, lukewarm water, and a fragrance-free moisturiser after washing. Ingredients such as glycerin, ceramides, or petrolatum may help reduce water loss; introduce one new product at a time and stop if burning develops. Protect exposed areas with clothing and broad-spectrum sunscreen, and avoid tanning and vigorous scrubbing.
If looseness or fine wrinkling remains after the skin is well moisturised, a dermatologist may discuss procedures such as radiofrequency skin tightening. Suitability depends on the area, skin thickness, medical history, and the result you want; treatment is not appropriate for every cause of crepey texture.
When to seek care
Arrange a skin examination if the texture changes quickly, is limited to one unusual patch, or comes with bleeding, crusting, pain, persistent itch, or a non-healing sore. Seek care sooner for a rapidly enlarging or changing lesion. Professional assessment is also useful when moisturising and sun protection do not improve persistent dryness.
Questions for your doctor
Is the texture mainly dehydration, photoaging, or another condition? Which moisturiser and sunscreen suit my skin? Would radiofrequency treatment address my concern, and what alternatives or recovery needs should I consider?

Questions people ask
Can moisturiser change crepey skin?
Moisturiser can soften the surface and make fine lines look less noticeable when dryness contributes, but it cannot restore every cause of reduced elasticity.
Does crepey skin always mean sun damage?
No. Dehydration, ageing, genetics, and other skin changes can contribute. A clinician can assess an unusual or persistent area.
